810 High Road, Tottenham, Haringey

Grade II*

This brick terrace house forms part of a pair of early Georgian houses built about 1715-20 - it has appeared on a TV programme by EH Chief Executive Simon Thurley. 810 High Road was on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk Register. Empty for over 20 years its general condition was very poor although it still retained some original internal features. Now the structure and the exterior of the building together with its railings and forecourt have been fully restored by the Haringey Building Preservation Trust in association with Heritage of London Trust Operations. Grants  were received from English Heritage and the Heritage of London Trust (who contributed £5,000), and grants and a loan from the Architectural Heritage Fund.

The building work was carried out under the supervision of local architect, Gary Butler of Butler & Hegarty, and by experienced conservation contractor, Universal Stone Ltd of Dunmow, Essex.

The formal opening of the completed project by HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, patron of Heritage of London Trust, took place on 2 June 2009. HOLT director Diana Beattie and HOLT Ops Director Laura Norris were also in attendance. Dr Simon Thurley, Chief Executive of English Heritage, was also present and spoke of the importance of this building.
