Abbey Mills Pumping Station, Station C

Abbey Lane, Newham

Grade II

*** please note that HOLT and HOLT Ops do not own this property, and CANNOT arrange access to this building. To make enquiries, please contact Thames Water on 01183738002 ***

The pumping station was built 1910-14 as an extension to Sir Joseph Bazalgette's earlier pumping station. Parts of this large complex are still in use today by Thames Water - it is near to the Olympic Park. It has been proposed that station C be converted to house the Building Craft College's Lets Build Programme. HOLT Ops has been in discussions with the HLF about a major grant to take these plans forward. An Option Appraisal and Conservation Management Plan was completed and HLF have confirmed that they would welcome a Townscape Heritage Initiative Application. HOLT Ops submitted the application in November 2008 and are awaiting a response.
