Heritage of London Trust
The Heritage of London Trust is the only building preservation trust covering the whole of London. The Trust exists to preserve the best of the past for the benefit of all who love this magnificent and historic city. We achieve this by offering grants towards the restoration of historic or listed buildings and monuments that are in some form of community use.
We have given out more than £2.5 million in grants to a diverse selection of restoration schemes across the capital, many in the poorest boroughs. Most of our heritage projects offer vital facilities for local communities, such as after-school programmes for children and services for the disabled and elderly. We focus our grants on specific aspects of the restoration work for example, conserving a stained glass window or plaster ceiling. Our grants are only paid out when restoration work is completed.
We have a sister trust, HOLT Ops, whose main purpose is to seek out derelict buildings, evaluate their potential and, having determined an end use, raise funds for restoration and oversee its completion. HOLT Ops is entirely independent of the Heritage of London Trust, but we do often work closely, sharing expertise and sometimes working on the same project.
The Heritage of London Trust has no endowment, and we are always looking for new sources of funding to ensure we can continue to expand our successful grants programme. Our sponsors include private individuals, family trusts, Livery Companies and corporate donors who value London's historic buildings and green spaces and want to ensure that they are used and enjoyed by local communities.
