Friends Reception at Westminster Palace
Friends enjoyed a unique evening of tours and drinks in the Members Dining Room at the Houses of Parliament on After guests made it through the complex security checks, they progressed through Westminster Hall- the oldest part of Westminster Palace, it was originally built in the 11th century, and was the scene of historic events, including the trail of King Charles I and the lying-in-state of Winston Churchill. Beyond Westminster Hall, they had an equally stunning journey through St Stephen’s Hall, part of Pugin and Barry’s design, resplendent with coloured tiles, gilding, and lined with paintings and statuary that chart the political history of our great nation.
In the lofty and oak panelled Members Dining Room, overlooking the Thames, HOLT friends and their guests enjoyed drinks and canapés before joining Sir Patrick and Westminster palace guides on intimate tours of the Commons and Lords. It was a great honour for the Trust to be able to enjoy this reception in the very heart of our democracy and within one of London’s greatest buildings. It truly was a lovely evening in awe-inspiring surroundings.
